  • If your having trouble removing those set screws holding on the doors.

While on Facebook the topic of removing doors came up.

The lower hinge plate screws are always a royal pain in the backside for me.

I rarely now try and remove them, instead I cut back the exposed threads as they are normally so swollen with rust they will never pass back through the captive nut and let the heat work its magic on getting any other rust loose.

Dont go further than the surface of the captive nut otherwise you will need a new hinge plate

Worst case some of the freezer spray for electronics that you can buy online sprayed on the head of the screw can also help in stubborn ones

Never had one fail to come away by doing this, chewed plenty screw heads, cussed, turned air blew and still had to cut it off trying.

New screws are available from many places.

Early or Late the Imp used two sizes.

    5/16" x 7/8" long UNF

    5/16" x 1" long UNF

Both sizes avaiable as countersunk socket heads online very cheaply

If you are OK with metric replacements Bob Allan at The Imp Club Spares dept can supply a new ninge plate and screws.

If you want to stick to Imperial then col rooney at CA restoration & Fabrication remakes the lower hinge plate with UNF captive nuts
