  • Replacement Bumper Set From Harringtons In Highly Polished Stainless Steel

I had already seen these fitted to bill penmans Imp and I know Peter Nunney has a set. Both reckon quality wsa good but both had to do work on the bumper irons.

When I ordered these a few weeks ago they asked for confirmation of hole locations, which was duly provided and also if I wanted the hole in the rear for the old crank style handle.

The packing was great, everything was bubble and cloth wrapped and all the new hardware was supplied with the bumpers.

Shape wise they are a little different but not so much the shine cannot hide it

Here are a few pictures of them unwrapped, I will add them to the car later and do a compare for folks to see in more detail the differences and judge for themselves.

Good chrome bumpers are getting harder to find and re-chroming from Ashford for two bumpers and 4 over-riders was £1,520 !

    As they say, stay tuned

Rear bumper, despite all the checking before hand and the people at Harringtons were great service wise, something still happened to the rear bumper

Such is life with hand made parts

First the "inner" holes were too close together despite emasureing, I think ththat perhaps the measure was used around the curve rather than straight

Anyway end result is the same, standard rear bumper irons will fit on outer holes but inner still too short

This is a lot closer than the ones Bill received as he had to effectively make his own bumper irons (modified fronts I believe)

Now that shows the more or less mirror finsh and as I said the images fdo not do the finish justice and in stainless it should stay that way for a very long time !

But by far the biggest issue

The over riders, two were identical and fitted to front. What can i say, I have no luck what-so-ever !

However quality control went right out the window on the other two which were both different shapes which can be seen easy by eye.

Different shape, different offset so sits round in place looking very odd and one with a slot.

See difference left to right. Image on left seems to be missing the end tip and right edge !

I have let Harringtons know so we will see what they say, I am not expecting any issue given service level to date.

        Friday afternoons ?
Like you say ,quality control ? they're nowhere near good enough , you just wouldn't be happy sending those as a matched pair, do people not think about possible future orders?

They obviously care as they acknowledged issues on bumper holes and wanted to check before sending. I did not bring it up with them.

But yeah, the over riders are a mile out. There are two that are spot on.

Not sure on the process if the emtal is heated, stretched or oversized then buffed back.

Certainly the one with the slot is no good

Not heard any real complaints they left people high and dry.

Hand made stuff, I usually expect some issues, like Radford Red Devils never two the same

Always a measure of a company on how they handle complaints and how fast they sort it out. Will likely see an answer tomorrow i hope.

Everyone I know that has had them has some problem, yet not seen them posted anywhere other than in passing comment, so decided just to let folks see what they get.

          Polished finish though, is awesome

Very interesting. Keep us informed of how things progress.

I have a set on a non Imp and whilst dimensionally they aren't quite as the originals, neither were some alternative after market sets. The polished finish is superb and has lasted for 5 years with minimal attention and at a price that seemed to me to be the better option compared to re-chroming or pattern parts.

Sam, nice to hear from you !

Yes £1,500 to re-chrome and its still a chance, Pat had a look at my whinging on the over rider quality and agreed, cant be fixed or fettled, so need them to replace them.

I had a plan for the bumper irons anyway to make a hybrid of the US extra support at back to hold the spotlight brakctes and just stiffen up the rear in case I need to tow Keith home again lm57krm@gmail.com as they held up very well indeed, plus I like the look of the "towel rail"

                John,
They look incredibly shiny and will certainly make your car stand out even more.

Like you say the bumpers and over riders are hand made so will be different from mass produced originals but maybe not that different from each other if made by the same pair of hands and looked over by the same pair of eyes. Mistakes happen though and it is how they are rectified is the important bit when a mistake is made.
Hopefully they will sort it out for you asap and you can fit both bumpers to the car successfully.

                Cheers
                Col.

Bumper looks like it will twist back to where it needs to be on rear once bolted down.

The over-riders tho are toast, so two new ones on way today I believe.

The old bumpers are not too bad Col but tatty enough to annoy me but apprantly that does not take much these days

John A. Ross Maybe a short video that shows those problems we did on the bench, send this over to the supplier confirming acceptance of 2 x new replacement ones provided they are the "same" or close as compared to what they delivered previous?

                      Update.

Ultimately the front bumper set was a non issue and all is well. Drops on perfectly

The rear bumper however, the inner holes to the irons are slightly out and will need massaged, but unlike issues before which other rported, no custom irons are needed. The holes are sonly 10mm or so off, I think they took the new measurements and rather than roind bumper, they did a extrude and straight line, landing them to far "inwards"

The over riders however, two were not even same shape as reast.

They have acknowledged the issue and sending replacements

                      - At present I am awaiting delivery

Think we were actually to reply to them and say that would be fine. ;)
