  • Refurb Starter Motor checks

I have a number of starter motors in stock awaiting the start of the rebuild of my Imp, what checks can I do to identify which is the best of the bunch and hense which one I should refinish ahead of the start of the rebuild ?

    Thanks

    Dave Lane is your man.

The M35G is contained in the mnaual here

WSM141 Section N - ELECTRICAL Part 1 of 11 Pages 3 and 4 are missing as my manual has 2 sets of page 1 and 2, if anyone can assist that would be great Pages 7 and 8 are poor quality due to creases in the page prior to scan and OCR, if anyone can provide better ones, fantastic !

The pages (PN17... to PN22.. are the ones you want.)

That covers brush, springstesting inbcluding cranking only test you cant really do is the insulation test unless you have access to a decent hi-pot tster. Dont follow the manual instructions to throw actual mains voltages in there.

Dirt, worn brushes, badly worn commutator but mostly dirt and worn pinions.

The starters were used in many models so maybe someone else has more detailed test information on the other starter models used in the imp as well as actual Lucas test cards as Lucas pretty much had test cards for everything.
