And in case anyone wonder WHY they should worry and buy these upgraded parts here are some examples of ones I have replaced.
Broken, cracked or pitted mounts are DANGEROUS and so many people leave them as they are or clamp the broken pieces back under the steel retaining plate.
Then they tighten them up beyond belief so a once good piece is now broken.
A small selection of images from ones I have changed over the years and that DOES NOT include ones I simply threw away ! These would normally have been tossed but I am still sorting through boxes since clearing out the workshop.
One snapped in two and the other with the pitting so bad on the mount it has cracked/split at the end.
Remember these came off ROAD GOING CARS !
More examples, as you can see from castings that are cracked, the casting is not dense at all. Hence Mikes comment "monkey metal"
See how bad the pitting is, these mounts had the damage hidden with grease and oxidisation., clear those away and the mount you have left is useless
More of the same.
Note the bracket on left, I have seen WAY TOO MANY cars with these missing, That is actually part of the sturucture and the ONLY item that will hold your steering rack in any way if those castings break.
Leave these off and you invite doom to the door step.
Final few.
I remember throwing out a much bigger box of these to the scrap skip (along with stuff I should have kept !)
It is way too common a defect and one of my fears as regards this "no mot needed" eco system we have now in the classic car scene.
I am now completely out of stock of all the new ones I had stashed and also the few billet ones I had done, Mikes moose549 are cheaper !

Mike,
The paranoia about file sizes is really just that.
You can have a 100k file (ultra small) fill a whole page and a 10mb file (huge) fill a corner.
Your images are hosted on google so taking up nothing really
Image wise as they say, fill your boots
Given folks stuff to read and see never ruins anythingLast edited by John A. Ross; 2 April 2020, 08:32 AM./ John
