Has anyone got the track rod end conversation I only have the old system with mine and I believe the long rod is not available anymore.
I want to make it myself and am looking to use EN24t which is a very good quality high tensile steel
The ends are fiesta I believe but my main question is does it still use the left/ right hand thread in the centre block ?
    thanks Gary

    Gary,

I actually have some spare fixed arms but there are two sizes. The adjustable solutions are my standard fit now and yes they use oppossed threads for the adjuster.

The inner fixed ones (marked D on WSM image) you can pick up NOS for about a tenner per side, they are same as the standard one normally fitted to rthe Driver/right side

The adjuster is also the same, so really you only need the outside length from track rod end to adjuster with oppossed threads so the adjuster will work (and locknuts to suit)

I can take te measurment from my outers on the chammy if you like

There are NOS inners in my box of parts for YNC including the fixed passenger side outers (also NOS) but the arm on the MK 1 is actually a bit to long

Is it just one of the outer rods that has the left hand thread

Yes, on mine I just ordered two outer rods and the ball joints, the inner rods/bush arms are same size both sides.

You have me thining on the threads now the connecting side of the outer arm which attaces to the other needs to be opposite thread so that they are pulled together or pushed apart as the adjuster is rotated and I am pretty sure the inner rod/bush arm has the right handed thread.

Only images I could find handy, last 2 cars same, I also added a spray of clear coat and some heat shrink sleeving on the rods to keep the crust away, was quicker than painting

JDL 889 F was the first car I pulled out a few years back now and restored. Came in running and driving looking like this. image_51.jpg Upon picking at it I ended up with this. image_52.jpg The phrase "what lies beneath" comes to mind ! This car had every possible bad repair done to it. The journey with

Good shout on using 24T Perfect material for job , nice to machine .Use that on alot of our car orientated work.
I went for the stainless track rod kit myself, Couldn't be bothered to make them.
Nice you're motoring on with build Gary.

I can see how the left had works with the old but not sure if it needs it now with all the adjustment on both ends Mike may come on later and explain the theory behind the left hand

Both inner arms that bolt to rack are right hand thread it is best to use the larger dia arms (can measure the dia next time i am in workshop) that step down to 1/2 UNF thread. You then have two adjusters that have right hand threads in one end and left hand thread in the other. You then have two bars that step down to Left and right hand thread, the left hand thread goes into the adjuster nut and the right hand thread end goes into the fiesta MK1 track rod end. You will need 4 right hand thread 1/2 UNF lock nuts and two left hand thread 1/2 UNF lock nuts. You can get the inner arm bushes from Superflex https://www.superflex.co.uk/proddeta...=SF318-2345KSS This allows you to adjust either side, just be careful centralise the rack position so you can get equal lock in both directions i run total toe in 3 mm so 1.5mm either side. 1/2 deg negative camber static with the car at running weight (two people in car).
