    • And that's about it store it with oil in and give it a turn every time you pop in the garage just to put the oil over all the gears
      Have a good build

      • Thanks for sharing Gary, the year just seems to have flown by. You managed a lot this year before weather turned.

        • Excellent article Gary. One piece of advice if taking a box out of storage and it is full of oil (or fill it first) roll the box over to drown the entire innards of the box with oil. The start the car on axle stands with rear wheels of the ground and select a gear as soon as possible so the pinion shaft spins and splash lubricates the upper tail bearing as this gets zero lubrication unless pinion shaft is spinning. Same applies after winter lay up of your classic do not start it up after a long time and leave it idling to warm up until you have done tyre pressures , greased king pins etc. Either start and take for short drive or spin wheels on axle stands.

          • Just an update on gearbox disasters just pick two boxes up when I strip the first one down it was a mark 3 box with Mark 1 bits inside unfortunately it looks like whoever put it together hadn't done the preload correct on the rear pinion bearing therefore when running it got very hot and welded the bearing to pinion shaft and the shaft to the thrust washer so it's toast unfortunately that's a real shame because the crown wheel opinion are in perfect condition Click image for larger version Name:	IMG_20240414_173253121_HDR.jpg Size:	3.50 MB ID:	24029 Click image for larger version Name:	IMG_20240414_173157604_HDR_1.jpg Size:	2.66 MB ID:	24030

            • There were always rumors of the last of the transaxles being put together with "leftover parts" maybe the rumors actually have some substance
