  • Engine Storage Box - Use for Lidl / Aldi specials

Ages ago I adopted the well known design for engine storage that has done its rounds.

Here is the picture I left on The Imp Club offical forums.

You can still access the original work if you are registered at the Imp Club Offical Forums AND an imp Club member showing in blue, the latter condition is that the information is in a protected members only section.

Below is my own take on it.

First I used one of these bases from Lidl / Aldi cheap, already has a handle and 4 castors, just drill to suit. The amount of fixings are up to you.

    Wickes also do them

Cutting list, 4 sides, use fixings as needed

    DIMENSIONS ARE IN CM

Cheers Jim McKenzie for noticing the missing dimensions on first posting, my bad !

And here is the 4 sides ready to screw together and in 3D

Dark brown are the B cut sides, the lighter brown is end sections A

Put together to fit as shown

    Just a word of warning

Imp engines on these type dollies are TOP HEAVY do not push them around on rough surfaces in case you hit and obstacle as they will topple over.

I often thought of dropping the height and cutting out the bottom

Oil will end up everywhere, dont ask how I know

This was MK 3 version for storing/shipping/moving engine around stable

Much more complex but can be pout on a pallet

        Truly a "crate" engine

It is same basic design except it has a wider base and a hole cut in for the sump to sit in with a lower centre of gravity

The shell can be scrwed on around the base.

This is how I have the spare 998 stored in the garage wrapped up.
