Looking good Gary , now it is on its wheels is another step closer.
Like John says the doors are a bit of a pain to fit and have a good gap all around them, more so I can imagine with them being standard (heavy) doors. Mine are fibreglass and still gave me a bit of grief.

Hi just cleaning the clutch arm and the spring clips are different sizes the larger one doesn't look stretched just bigger , anyone shed some light , should I fit new ones as a matter of course?

Yes there are several types of clips (as there is also arms) some are thicker. I have some spare ones here if you need any.

That was one of Robins ones I fitted to the MK 1 while we had engine out for new liners

Was nothing wrong with the carbon one we pulled out and thee 5 1/2 " cover and friction plate were already new but as I had one for it, seemeed a shame not to. Works very well indeed.

VW conversion one also works very well.

Also the tank locks to have no rust on inside but has thin coating of black stuff that just flakes off .

Gary , l have seen fuel tank strapped to a d i y cement mixer (not one of the ones that drive around town delivering, IDIOT!), put stone chippings in tank and let mixer do its thing, seems odd but in theory should work well.

Followed by my filter of course.

Gary, I have seen dead fuel look like tar. Anyone local do dip stripping ? that would get it clean in one go.

The senders are actually available new but not identical, I put one of these in DDG, just bent float to suit. Has low fuel warning as well for a second lamp.

However I quite liked the look of the in tank pump that Dave edge used on the Imp Club Forums. Thought about that many times but as I use the load space for all manner of junk having the fuel lines under the tank cover makes me nervous.

just put one of the doors back on shims are a pig to get in as we all no ( that's the moan out of the way)

Thats a damn good fit on first go Gary, these doors hate me, I am usually miles off

Only thing is when you set them, set them with all the drop glass in.

Paint in the door checks and inside of doors, fit them with drop glass in and set. Paint with doors on.

Nerve racking fitting them on fresh paint !

On mine the paint thickness was enough to cause me grief

Will do the glass is heavy and it will drop I did all the pins just to make sure too

Same job today as you've just done John thought with the doors on and the new door hoop I welded on just not quite right I may have to re weld it I'd fit the quarter lite to get a better idea thought I'd done it right but have got the angle wrong .
I've now with EXPERIENCE ? found that the top of the door starts to drop from 90 degs about half way across so now the hoop is catching at the radius part so no way out will just have to lower it at the front that will then bring the angle correct and the back of the quarter lite sq as when you screw it up now it's not at 90 to the window
