The gloss vinyl wrap looks OK at a distance but it has nowehere near the quality of proper deep gloss

Next up the rattles from the back, I was in fear of water pumps as recent failures with other may have jinxed it !

First rattle found, note to self, remeber and tighten ALL the bolts

Rattle was indeed related to the belt/pump end but thankfully not he pump

Lastly time to fix the spacing on the silencer.

Gone is my lovely bracket




Now beaten into something less coiol looking, I hate the look of that clamp but it spaces the exhaust so much better

And finally help drafted in for adjustment on the coil-overs.

Does not sit at front now like its collapsed.

Still need to remove the decamber mod and reset but it will do for now.

Steering and handling was good, need to soften it up a bit though,

Thanks Mike moose549 for the tips on setup and Pat @pmcg for handling the spanners. You were spot on Mike, full tank of fuel, loaded bonnet space and my butt in seat. No shorter springs needed

The roads were just a bit lumpier than the local ones here which I had used for setup but I reckon a click or two down will sort it.

Knock and squeek from front contnues, found squeek, ther back edge of the bonnet is rubbing against the inner return on the scuttle.

Floor knock I reckon is rack. Was refurbished and done only the miles the car has but going to swap out and see. Only present with car in motion and does not change with speed.

The rattle is a total guess I have ended up with nuts loose in a cavity somewhere my bad.


The noises from the back however concern me more. Rarely change with engine speed, rev with clutch in no noise, clutch out in nuetral, no issues, in gear and move slowley, starts knocking and ratling. My fear is transaxle

We will see.

Yip, on certain surfaces it looked as though the front had collapsed ! Other times OK

Ended up on the montes bottom collar about 1/2"

To get the camber right the nose still sticks high when it is set as the decamber mod if forcing more lift

Should be a lot better when I shift the washer to bottom and do it again.


I am also getting on with the tracking aid similar to yours, a lot easier than the two 1.2m beads and leaser measure I have been using !

You are making a tracking bar? There is quite a bit more to it all than fitting Monte's or Monte's minus 1 inch or just doing the camber washer mod. Then you get into the MK1 and later suspension. Especially if you are setting it up to handle rather than look like it handles!

Yes tracking bar.

It is MK 1 high pivot, hence the mod, this was the system that was fitted to the car originally and all the parts were added back in.

The decamber mod did its job camber wise but the wheel was very low in its arch and looked odd.

As I dropped the spring/schock length with the de-camber mod I am having to push it back up.

Similar spring lengths on Boris (Spax/Same montes) sat well but that was on low pivot running gear

I won't be doing any competition, I am too big, a lousy driver so will be just spirited road driving.

Plus as I found out last Sunday run I do not have the strength in my left hand any more to handle holding the wheel during fast direction changes, so likely would be looking to keep the steering reasonably spritely.

Few more things today before the torrential rain gets to us.

Passenger door adjusted in a bit at front and frame duly "persuaded" to fit the gap, no more wind noise I hope

Rear side windows and hatch seals, only had a few drips even after a whole day out in wet the last time but a drip is enough.

Paul commented today on the missing hatch handle, I never refitted it as I do not have a decent quality one, but have fitted the original with a polish anyway, not great but better than nout



And the lock mechanism gets a new padded seal and O ring on outer trim



The spotlights are fitted (reproductions) and the rivets on one were iffy, so off it came for some bashing flat
