Gate pic's ?
Assuming you got ready made carpets? who from ? so l know to avoid , saw reports on Coverdale carpets being a good bet.
Sounds like an interesting day.
It was indeed coverdale carpets. The fit on the front tub is horid even after shaping the hairu stuff. You can see the hairy stuff every where you would think Sasquatch had been camping their out the cold !
The lengths along the inner sill box is about an inch too short (or the car is 1" too long or the front wheel tub carpet is even worse than I thought or the last solution is propably I have not a clue what I am doing .
However I have learned from experience (usually bad) that the reputation assigned to many suppliers of imp parts is not entirely well deserved.
I ordered some roll stock at same time for other bits I wanted to look the same so I will find an old original piece of carpet and cut my own for the wheel tubs and sills.
Gate wise which got me out the house for a bit !
Just need to add the parts around it and cut the cats "portal" out the bottom right hand side.
The gate was a iron gate but these get really tatty and a bigger pain to keep the rust at bay than an imp so I framed the iron and cladded it, it was already treated timber and like the rest of the fence now has a generous coating of creocote.
The fence part immediately left / inline with gate is old, just coated
Pat and me just not long finished the boundary fence though, all 38M of it and up a hill as well. Not looking to dig holes for any more fence posts anytime soon but a bit of manual labour now and again keeps us desk jockeys honest
Still plenty to be done, the old fence was sliding down the hill towards me as the ground washes away, so the bit going up the hill on the other side has a membrane/pea gravel temp drainage ditch to keep the water away (working a treat) I just need to build a new block retaining wall to stop the mud slide from getting worse, or at least any worse in my life time !

WELL tatty
You only did that to wind me up .
Just packed 2 more filters ,off to Denmark following the 2 he had in springtime. Obviously working well !!!! ok to use the word "well" there.
Best and only sensible use I have found for one of these Facet fuel pumps. Man can it shift fuel in a hurry !
Went to change the coolant out and unfortunately DDG ran out of fuel, the big disadvantage of it living in the garage, need to pull out the finger and get it finished or at least driving.
And so the coolant was changed, not a big job and i need to admit that after doing away with the 3 way "bleed" valve at back of the car I have not seen any ill effects.
When fresh, car was on level, pre-filled front loop using hose (the front never really drains), filled up with coolant leaving what was up front to dillute it, run car till warm get last of air out from front valve (usually a bit) deed done.
Ran 30 minutes and I still have the feeling I will end up getting rid of the front Aux rad as I cant even get the engine up to decent temp on idle. Guage says 65 deg as warm as it gets. By idle I mean locking throttle at 2k5 rpm.
The combination of the larger bore hoses, the Aux rad at front seems to have had a really negative effect or it is the sheer additional volume of coolant plus the increased surface area of the larger bore hoses that are fighting me.
Might be a bit better driving on raod, we will see.
At least it still starts on the button and purrs OK once I get timing set properly and the carb dialed in should be a lot better I hope !!
Back on with the carpet, ripped out the stock pattern one at edge and refitted more like original. Looks like I had two corner bits missing so had to recut some.
Bit happier now
Shame I dont have a bigger workshop or table to cut on
Amazing how fast this hessian type stuff blunts cutting tools
So on with adding the latex dosed hessian and the outer bits of crpet, I love the way the deadening can sort of break down a bit and fit into corners.
Very happy with how the underlay and the edges came out now
And in with the pattern carpet, fits like ship but is what it is for now, the carpet does not contour as well as the backing but will have to do for now
Will get the hoovering machine out tomorrow and clean off some of the adhesive overspray.
Then onto the pain in the back side, the front
I reckon I will either build up the tunner so it is symetrivcal both sides this time or go factory style and add the backing to the carpet first, but as I dont expect the front carpet to fit any better than the back, I reckon bolstering out the tunnel will be a better call.
The carpet doesn't look to bad John form the photos.
Are the last photos the carpet that you cut from the roll you bought?
I am using the 4 way stretch stuff you can buy for doing out the back of a camper van walls and roof and it pretty easy to put down although the edge isn't a great finish but I recently read a good idea of folding it on itself to finish it which I may try when I do the floor sections. Not sure if I want to do it in the 4 way stretch stuff though as it doesn't look all that durable but then again I could always buy a pair of driving baffies for when I eventually drive it ...have a spare pair for the passenger as well...
Yip, folding over the edge is where I was going, I did that on the arches, not the back under the seats though as you never see an edge there but at the front arches yes.~
The carpet set has been edged and this makes the bad cut look worse, there will be enough to fold over later so I have left the edge for now, the carpets were stopping the seat fitting, once the seats are in and as long as its not raining, its on the road, seatbelts were never fitted so off I can get on the road to find the bolts I never tightened and get the front height dialled in from Mikes shocks.
Did not get back to it today, been busy with other shenanigans
Not managed much, actually been slammed with doing day work.
Got carpet in this evening, fit is terrible so it will be bacl out at some point but enough that I can wrap things up seat wise as its the front that will need work and I would like to wrap it around whatever the seat mouynst bring.
I remember now I had to fit upholstery foam to the middle section to sort out the tunnel. Making the car fit the carpet so to speak, going factory style would not help as raising the flat areas will just make the tunner worse
Grumnp mode was off today and once I managed to get the back and shoulders eased off I decided that it was time I pulled the finger out and did some Imp work.
Dont you hate it when real work gets in the way
Of to garage, heater on (still freezing)
Some spare box section I salvaged from some old office furniture "just in cas" now duly up-cycled as front seat mounts. The MGF seats already have good runners and a long reach.
Paul has these bolted straight down however when I tried it I fiound the front was too low, put 50mm spacer in after measuring and seemed logical, put it in, too high such is the curse of having a long body and short legs
Holes drilled and tapped all way through with flanged nut inbetween to make it well rigid.
Then the question of how to mount it, after seeing so many torn mounts I decided to add three holes for M8 fixings, sleeved with a tube so they dont compress the box section
So thats the two mounts done, welded the threaded supports inside the box section and on the protruding part at the back, then welded all the sleeve inserts on top side, flattened back
Now a coat of primer, that will likely take a bot longer than planned to flash off, then a coat of black
Mount wise, I will add 3 new stainless M8 Riv-nuts to the seat support on the car after positioning the seat and bolt through the box section and down. I can always put standard seats back in then if I like.
Front height adjust will be using a flanged nut either side of the seat bolt aperture and adjust to suit me once I am in, the back will be adjusted using blocks for now then perhapds a similar idea for the back.
