Then time to add in both temp senders.
I have the gauge in the binnacle wired uop but alkso a modern temp gauge and sender seperate, so time to chop up an old temp switch from a MK 1, shave it down a bit and use it to mount the 1/8 NPT sender for the modern gauge.
Why pay for an adapter
I find even cheap gauges OK as long as the sender can be in the fluid and not sinking the ambient heat from the casing

The Keihin project went on hold.
But in the mean time the engine came back from rebuild and Dyno from Andy Jones at Shrigley Engineering.
Just managed to get the car on stands to pull it out and my back wont let me get low enough, so it will be a long process !
Still I can work on Doris mean time as thats all standing work.

Progress is progress I guess
Thats us all buttoned back in, removed the exhaust and carb from the 930 to transfer to the 998 and I must say I am really dissapointed the quality of manifold gaskets these days, the tinfoil layered ones always gave me grief and did not fit worth a damn, the compressed composite ones go brittle and split (and no its not my lead foot )
I have refitted and old one for now to get it moving.
10W-60 took over a week to arrive and that was a pain, but at least its all in, topped up, just need a dry spin up to get pressure and then time to fire up, hopefully saturday.
A day on Doris tomorrow

Some fixes I missed.
I added some captive nuts to the chassis leg for the oil cooler bracket as the nut/bolt was driving me nuts
I also took out the old captive nuts and replace them on the bumper mounts, to be done, need to move the fog lamp for better access. A 2fixorage" for later as Dave would put it Dave Lane/ John

OK, I started to rplace the old carb and exhaust for a Nikki and a janspeed, first issue was the stud length on the head, far too short to use the reduced head nuts.
The gap in height between inlet and exhaust meant that they could not be clamped down, so did some mods and that was sorted
New longer studs ordered ( 5/16" x 1 15/16" ) UNC/UNF
These arrive dand were duly loctited in, I still had a few issues as I mis calculated the length and the threaded UNF side was short, so needed s small spacer and came up with this idea.
I drilled out a few M8 Stainless flange nuts to 8.5mm to act as a spacer and a washer, the reduced head ARP style nuts are also tri pinched so self locking
Next issue is the quadrant, I had to make a new bracket for it and entirely forgot about the return spring. Not taking it back out now so tomorrow will get thinking cap on.

And as preperation goes on for the 2400 mile round trip to Monaco, suspension and brake check time. I was a little upset finding both stub axle pin woes, some bearing woes (little grey streaks in grease) and a fouling bolt !
The biggest knock was my fault though, apprantly the cars clunk when you do not have the horizontal stub axle bolt tight , who knew
Still onwards and a set of new bushes and well polished pin installed.
Could not have done such a job without one of these. If you do not have one and keeping a hold of your imp, buy one !
