Was blowing a gale and wet out so took suspension apart, could find nothing, smooth as silk, only place of possible shift would be springs. So added a neoprene washer at spring base and brought the collars up a bit.
Mu gut is telling me that will make no improvement at all, the sound and tactile feel through the steering is exactly like stub axle play. There is no rotational aspect to ity, its vertical motion.
Second pick would be the rack.
I will go in search of stub axles in the stash, they will be well grubby. Me and pat were just talking about how we missed the media blast cabinet so now have a reason to buy another
I can say that's why mine ahs never left the garage in ages too John.... and why it will stay in the there till next year too.
Along with the engine still being out of the car and I'm waiting on a gear being made for the electric reverse as the one I bought didn't fit with my set up.
I had a good going over all the suspension bolts and all looks well. I did fit poly bushes to the front in preference to rubber ones however this is not that kind of noise.
Plus they are tight, intact and no play, the design kind of prevents metal/metal contact unlike badly inserted rubber bush.
Back to my initial suspect, stub axles, no play there I can see and I took ages getting the washer surfaces right and shimming, I asked Gordon (MOT tester) to give it soem abuse and he could find nothing even on teh shaker plates. Was quite complimentary actually.
This noise was there prior to fitting Mikes coilovers so not there, the top spring plates are also in there solid.
Ah well, Rack was easiest to change.
Time to rumage through the stub axle boxes and go from theire, small media blast cabinet about to be ordred man i miss that tool !
Back out for quick test today inbetween giving the paint another cut back and polish. Not a lot of mess with this G360 stuff and more gentle than the 3M.
Dissapointing part is it looks like some of the particles I hope to polish out are under the clear coat. On hindisght the clear coat choice was perhaps not that wise when painting outside a booth.
Rattle from front still there and just as annoying but if I go look in storage pallets outside today to find stub axles it is so cold here bits might fall off me and I have very little bits left that work to spare.
Rattle from back I am almost certain is related to the transaxle and low gear but that theory will need to wait until i pull the engine.
