Time to check for more leaks after putting tehe xpansion tank in.

Damn hard to warm this thing up, the front rad is getting a blocking valve "Dave style" Dave Lane


So climb some hills I did.

Also dialled the shocks down to soft, will play with the settings more over next few days

Nice cobbled roads around to debug the build.

So far managed to work the back exhaust clamp loose and develop a nasty rear clunk.

Exhaust clamp easy, clunk will need investigation, sound like a mount or coupling but looking underneath I cant see anything.

Small weep of something from drain in spare wheel well at front, the external resevoir coupling gae me issues on iunstall and my gut told me to fit another one but ignored my gut rather than wait, bit me on the back side now is my guess.

Weep from block drain tap, going to open and rump back up, otherise if the flat end has gon (it was new though) its replace time.

Other than clunk, so far so good with everything else seemingly just alignment

Earlier in the build I opted for a much less expensive 6 hole sender unit from Car Builder Solutions which has an extra feature a "fuel low" indicator.

Did not see much point in it to begin with but it was just one extra wire to put in the new loom.

I always keep the tank full(ish) as imp guages are not to be trusted however hey ho.

In any event I put a gallon can of fuel in before nipping out here and their, nice to see the fuel light come on now, done 35 miles or so from empty with one can of fuel

Lamp can now be considered time to fuel or else as tank must be getting empty by now !

Another day another run out, still chasing gremlins

Who says parking spaces at hospitals are too small time to call in to see the vampire, in / 0.5L drained off / out in 15 minutes feel like crap since.





That was furthest run out yet.

Still got a coolant drip from the block drain valve, reckon its feeked as no amount of tightening up seals it. Only a drip but a drip is a drip.

Oil still pissing out gearbox end but I have an idea for that.

Decamber mod needs undone.

But seems that the fibreglass cant hold the proper job clips, trim sprung lookse, the clips must not be holding as they are not long enough to get through the thicker fibreglass. Knew I should have just glued the damn things in !

Well with Liam and Hayleys help thats the old seal out and new one in (almost).

The marks where Franks seal was is obvious, just shows how much more real rubber there was. Franks seals are awesome.

Thats the narrow seal in from UK, same as Tim McKies already fitted to his same heated screen with success.

So here is hoping this snugs the glass better and I can get it sealed.





This was by far the biggest snagging job as I cant do this one on my own.

Will need to recruit assistance tomorrow

I will be looking at the engine on the Pest this weekend. Looks like I will be pulling it out as its difficult to get into the cylinder head when its in the car.
It may have dropped a valve is what im thinking now so the head needs to come of..

On the bright side though, I will be finished with the MX5 more or less..

Yeh John,
He is pretty chuffed with it and eager to get upto it so its always progressing so he can finally drive it. It's come along nicely from when we got it in April.
It wasn't in a pretty state for sure with moss on the sills, lacquer peel all down the left hand side and of course the rusty arches at the rear they are famous for,

He got mucked in and helped though so he was learning all about it too which was good.

Windscreen back in.

My choice is still Franks seals, wish it had a wider channel to take the glass. The heated screen glass is 6.5mm +/- 0.5mm

Anyway, the narrow but wider channel seal, quite dissapointed as when I applied sealer it managed to creep through to other side in the car, I do not really like it when sealer find a way through as it means a gap exists that should not be there.

Franks seal has a narrower channel so did not snug the glass as well but it was tight as a drum, you literally had to tap it all the way hiome into the frame and was totally waterproof (no selaer)

Could not find the filler insertion tool so had to improvise

Piece of old choke cable bent around and clamped with gripsd. Worked well, if needs must and all that




And obligitory passengers for the day.

Only 2 turned up, Tamsin and Miss peaches, Odin seemed AWOL today begs the question are we there yet ? hell no.

Car exterior cleaned off and back in garage, the door cappings have been bouncing around for ages pending wood trim. They look terrible with no cappings



So thats the cappings on



Wiring also in for the heated screen


The reward for this TLC.

What looks like a feeking oil leak, guess my "sealing" did notw ork out, so at somempoint engine out, split sump and BSK and refit with new gaskets and flange sealant. It was bad, but I managed to fill it outside in but I guess with a few miles on the clock now and the oil getting thinner its found a way out

Coolant leak not for stopping on the block tap, new one needed

But oe big pain in the ass bit hopefully done now
