Bonnet wise its original bits, bit of a wipe down, some stone chip on the paper panels and some satin black works wonders

Hope I do not have to take it apart that often.

I spent more time on George the chammy, with a view to making it look "standard" except the spare wheel retaining strap which was very high tech indeed but suits the car



The deadening I used in the engine cover looked much better, downside is it was too heavy and as it was intended for floor, kept falling down as no matter what adhesive I used it would not stay, eventually it was put on with acrylic so wont be budging again.

Yes stainless mesh will cover the exit aperture for the front Aux radiator ( Audi A3/ VW Polo heater matrix ) you can just see the cut down fluid pipes.

Rear hatch take, well a lot !

Some more seals arrived today, I had a seal that was perfect but I would need to modify the hinges at the top to get the hatch CLOSER to the body to enter the hacth aperture and it would sit almost flush and let the actual hatch seal do its job.



Want all this sorted before i split the window and paint the hatch.

And as I had replaced all the side sections at the rear seat hinge points as the nuts were seized.

So fitted, new holes drilled, new rivnuts and stainless screws and working fine

Unfortunately was not happy with the headlining, so thats coming back down and get refitted

And thats handbrake adjusted, wire checked and the lower tray fitted, deed done under middle of car now

One step closer to dropping the car off stands.

Thats throttle cable rerouted to enter the bay at a more sensible angle for the 28/36 linkage ! and the fuel line also rerouted away from the engine and down to where it is just a nice easy turn up to the carb.

And final bits under the car.

Starter bolts tightened, bell housing bolts checked.

And this pain in the ass part.

As the engine has a block strengthening kit fitted, the original wont fit so a bit of slicing and dicing needed





Sliced, diced and re-trimmed and fitted.

Would have been nice to have shint stainless to match the rest but it is what it is

And so, with a swoop of the trolley jack thats the stands out and thats car on the deck, handbrakes and brakes working, clutch feels good, can crawl about in car now to get last bits like throttle pedal done





Started for first time end next week i reckon once binnacle, throttle pedal and seat is in

So only big challenge as wiring and stuff will be easy, getting a responsive soft feel to the throttle pedal which will be down to the linkage and quadrant, time for some tin bashing and funky stuff, might even need to get the welder out

Are you saying that the throttle is not electric (fly by wire) ?

Time to re-assemble the binnacle.

The glass had been stained in storage and I found a dink in the edge,




ah well, was looking too new anyway but I cleaned off the mess on the glass.

Resurrecting the dash was a chore, takes ages, instruments out, remove crud, recoat back of it white and zinc/clear the rest.

Best you can do is black marker in any spots on the gauge front

And then the outside, with new decals and a few coats of satin lacquer

And a word of warning, DO NOT GET THE SPACERS MIXED UP

Otherwise you will end up like this and you have to start again

You can crimp down the instryument cluster to the binnacle so much it cracks the glass !
