On the trip out in Barnaby tother day we did , for the first time in decades got the feint whiff of fumes coming in .
This was quickly traced to the early dipstick aperture seal split which is why I fitted the later cap type
Anyhoo Ive never been 100% convinced the oil filler caps is a perfect seal.
I did replace the filler neck yonks ago with a stainless one meant for a radiator as the factory ones just turn to rust .
It dawned on me this morning a rad cap would fit straight on it however having " Do not remove when hot and 7PSI " on the tops a no no .
Anyway ive built the bastard child of a factory oil cap and an old rad cap. I removed the rubber seal and anything else that might fall into the engine - after all its oil not coolant .
It certainly fits fine - ive no idea if it will work or indeed if i even have a problem
Still it was fun making it

Barnabys screen rubber is slowly dissolving so something had to be tried.
Its a later factory original Hillman Imp van rubber , early Commer ones were smooth , Hillman vans had a " ribbed for extra pleasure " one like this.
Anyway every time it rained or god forbid i washed it I got streaks of black running down the panels .
Ive started using tyre blackener on it and after letting a fair few coats sink in its starting to come around .
Its never leaked and was uber tight to fit so Im gonna try and prolong its life

So what started out as a repair ended up as butchery .
Restall rear seat in Barnaby had a large cut on the vertical part of the seat base ( sadly no pic ) so the initial plan was remove seat stick duck tape or whatever behind it and voila fixed .
However I did notice theres a load of unusable space under said seat.
So I removed this face completely - fitted a rubber mat on the floor and voila - underseat STORAGE .
Seat cover is glued at present but ive some upholstery C clips coming to finish it off ,
Added bonus is i can now clean underneath the seat easy - twas full of rubbish but i did find 11 pence and my missing 1/4 drive short extension
