  • Body Side - Fitting Expressed Panels Floor Sections

    Summary

Panel cost - £143 In Vat per side (£286 per car)

Imp club members get discounted prices and to put the discount into perspective your 10% discount (£28) covers the current club membership fee ! so everything else the club supplies you is gravy

Labour - 1 hour prep per panel, 30-40 minutes each panel to key with 120 grit, then acid phospate the surface
Labour - 8-10 hours per side to install (not including cutting out old floor and other section repairs.)

    Consumables - 5 x 120 grit sanding discs
    Consumables - 0.5m 50mm wide x 120 grit paper
Consumables - 1 x 80 grit flap disc to clean of drill holes
Consumables - 100ml x zinc phoispate etch solution (water soluable)
    Consumables - 1 x green abrasive pad
    Consumables - 350ml 2 Part Epoxy Coating EM121 https://www.rust.co.uk
Consumables - 300ml 2K Rootes Foam Grey Paint, 150ml acceleratto and 50ml thinners
Consumables - Mixing cups, cleaners, degreasers......

If you think panels cost money, count the beans on your consumables and plan well ahead ! consumable costs can eat you alive

The floor attachments are surprisingly few, changing rather than repairing a floor, well it makes sense as you can cut as far as you need in to get good strong metal to attach to AND you get to clean out under the seat braces which will be nasty. almost makes sense to replace ratheer than repair.

As you will see in the video, it is very easy to get out BUT make sure the shell is supported sufficiently or you will end up in really deep doo-doo and its nothing to do with it being on a jig, its common sense.

Prep wise here are a few static images, why do I add this stage, well these panels have been in bare metal and were shwoing signs of surface rust and every little rusty spider growth under your expensive shiny paint could be bad prep

Takes about 10-15 minutes to brush the solution in as it is weak and you need to keep it wet for it to work, so brush in then just keep repeating for 10 minutes then leave 10 minutes, agitate if its going dry.

If you wonder what difference it makes see below, the part I just brushed it in on left of image, significantly cleaner than whats left

In the end its only clean as its not had time to work yet, shiny is ship, well not good anyway

Finally after it has had time to work and I have rinsed it off with some water it will settle a dull zinc sort of grey, the emtal is protected enough for a few days from flash rust, more if its not stored in a humid place.
