Running problem. Started my 1040 imp yesterday and it is not happy. Won't tick over below 1200 rpm. Will idle lumpily for anything from 15 secs to several minutes at 1200, then drops to around 1000 afterseveral seconds then will suddenly "die" to around 600rpm and either just hangs in and picks up to 1200 again or will cut out. So far I have: blown back through the fuel line (all clear), blown carb cleaner through the carb (28/36) inlet pipe, checked the inlet gauze filter and cleaned it, cleaned the jets you can access from the outside of the carb, replaced the electric fuel pump, changed the fuel filter (which was quite gunked up with junk from the tank), checked the plugs (good colour and gaps), checked the timing, checked the carb flange bolt tightness and checked the manifold nuts for tightness. It also has a slight misfire in 4th gear at low revs. Problem seems better when the car is cold. Managed to get it to idle, roughly, by advancing the timing two or so degrees and fiddling with mixture and throttle stop screws. It is almost as if the fuel flow is being temporarily interrupted. Any one got any ideas? The car ran fine until it has not been used for several month. Has new super grade unleaded in it now.
