    Soon after taking charge of Ted Pool's Alpine Rallye Chamois back in the year 2000 I changed the said 998cc engine ,which was actually a B1 930cc and installed a 1070cc unit to enable more climbing ability on his and wife's French Alps events..

    He entered me to attend Prescott on the 8th April 2000 to shake down.

    Needless to say the weekend was ruined due to distributor problems and I barely completed the event let alone getting any good times runs..

    Still all good an experience..

    I detuned the 1070 cc by purchasing a cylinder head from Mark Ibbotson using 1.325 inlets but a full on head otherwise and a Piper 1RY camshaft.

    It really needed Twin Forties to run right but still managed 78 bhp on Jon Mowats rolling road previously to the event near Southend,Essex.

    The operator shaved a lot off the Stromberg 125 needles to get that though .After leaving Ted at the side cycle track on the A127 I had a thrash up and down and it easily went off the kph speedo ..

    Something in excess of 160 kph..

    I teamed up with Mark on route to Prescott at a later date to which a bad misfire come stalling took place on route to the venue which as I said ruined such expectations..

    Ted visited Prescott on the Saturday with a picnic hamper which was pleasant but still did not make up for the irritating ignition problems..

    I was sure it was due to the Stromberg carbs or water in the fuel at tbe time otherwise I am sure I could have borrowed a hack dizzy..

    Richard Bourne was lucky that day in not getting blown away by EVR ..
