1. Ensure slave cylinders can slide (check if back plates have been powder coated that the coating does not go soft with heat and jam slave cylinder) If cylinders do not slide remove them clean back plate and cylinder and lubricate with Coppaslip.
2. Check there is not a wear groove in the back plate where the handbrake lever pivots as this can cause the slave cylinder to jam on back plate.
3. Ensure raised pads on back plate that the edges of the shoes rest on are perfectly flat. Any lips or steps will cause shoe to stick and rub on drum building up heat and glazing shoes. Or they will give a false shoes position when adjusting. Apply a minimal amount of Coppaslip to the pads so as not to contaminate shoe material.
4. Clean drum with brake cleaner
5. Adjust shoes as per manufacture instructions
6. Brake from 60 mph to 30 6 to 7 times using a steady brake pedal application. A gentle pull on the handbrake lever to ensure full engagement of the new shoes will help. Do not left foot brake, lock wheels or come to a complete standstill.
7. After the 7th slow down allow brakes to completely cool (do not park up with foot on brake pedal or handbrake applied as this will cook the shoe against the drum)
8. The brake shoes will now work from cold. Remove drums clean out re-adjust.
9. A good practice is to bleed the brakes at this point (not to remove air). This replaces the fluid in the slave cylinders and or callipers. This fluid is the only fluid in the system that is affected by the temperature from the brakes so de-grades.

If you do not bed them in they will glaze.
If you bed them in correctly you will never have to do it again unless you drive incredibly gently on brakes and glaze the shoes. If this occurs rough up shoe material with 60 grit emery and repeat bedding in.
