  • Is it me ? Item on facebook

    https://www.hillmanimp.org/forum/mai...for-fuel-cells

Don't do facebook so can't add anything , am l looking at this article correctly ? has he drilled hole in bottom of tank as a return for fuel , does he intend adding a pipe to this coupling to bring level up to top of tank ? l would have thought better to put it up by input pipe is ,where it is accessible .
Just wondering if l'm missing something?

And that section of the forums scavanges threads from Fscebook, Twitter, Ebay, Imp Club Forums and a few other sources and brings them all here.

      Saves time doing the rounds.

        Yes John
Just seemed odd to me that return is in bottom of tank and will automatically fill with fuel from tank , is the returning fuel being pumped under pressure? is it more than the pressure of full tank bearing down on it?
just thought it would be a dribble so therefore higher in tank would be better?

        Not so poorly Bob

          Bob

Ideally for injection you want constant (ish) pressure on the rail and no air. Keeping the return under fuel level would certainly help in absence of a swirl pot.

System will be running at 3 bar or more up to 8 approx. when there is no/less demand for fuel the pressure will lift the relief valve and return unused fuel to tank at rail pressure.

Thanks John \Mike , no experience of such system so good to know the reasons for return being placed there, plus it's an easy pipe run.

                Bob,

Injection wise good performance can hinge on a lot of things, good looking but otherwise crap wiring, poor components (specifically Chinese connectors), under-rated wire, crap fuel lines, old fuel lines, crap o ring seals, …… but mostly air.

I was chasing issues on this today as it did not like starting if parked uphill, yip, really ! which is most inconvienient as my drive is on a slope it would drain the battery before starting (big 95Ah beast)

So a set of new fuel lines plus test port, bunch of O seal rings as a lot of the connectors were push fit, replace rubber fuel lines at filter and repalce filter.

These 5 cylinder trucks do not have a fuel tank located pump, so the LP pump mounted at the front of the engine has to cuck the fuel up and then to the high pressure pump mounted on the cam then to the fuel rail, any leaks and the fuel drains out and you need to prime the bugger on every crank but the battery will go flat as its sucking air !

pain pain pain. In principle simples but a pain indeed.

The blue glove was where I left off yesterday as I had no hose to use and it was well cracked

Hose obtained today, system primed at engine side with red diesel so i can see it in the clear fuel lines and started then ran till clear fuel.

All seems OK, have parked it on road up from house on hill to test again tomorow, if it does not start there it will sit for a loooong time
