  • Imp Club National Get together 2023 and Knockhill Track Day !

From Scott Clements & The team

It is now just under 4 weeks until the Imp International takes place on the 3rd -7th August at Perth Racecourse celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Imps launch, plans are well under way and details can be found here : Home (impnational.uk) We will continue to update IMPortant information there for those attending, those that can't make it can see what were up to. We are hoping to make a couple of changes to the way we do things that should allow those at home to fell a little bit more part of the event, watch out for the updates.

For those still undecided there is still the chance to book, accommodation is in short supply and expensive due to other events being on the same weekend in Perth but plenty of camping areas still available and it is super cheap, a pitch is basically £10 a unit, four sharing, that would be £2.50 per person, per night plus event tickets. All the details at above website.

The runs are all planned, with various options for places to visit, some of them require prebooking to take advantage of discounts - again all the details are on the website.

The event opens with a trackday at Knockhill on Thursday 3rd, this will be our third visit with the Imp Club, we were there in 2006 and 2013. Everyone raved about it afterwards, the track suits the Imps as it does not have long straights where you run out of gears or revs, it is all about handling at which the Imp excels. The cost is £80 which is a great price, booking details again on the website. Spectator are welcome.

For those that haven't done a trackday and are apprehensive about their inexperience or having a standard car, don't worry the Knockhill track controllers are excellent, at the pre event briefing everyone is told in no uncertain terms that it is a trackday not a race, all overtaking is done on the straights (3) on the left (opposite from the road) and with consent (car in front moves over), they are super strict on this and anyone disobeying these rules will be Black Flagged and pulled into the pits, one warning, second time -removed from the track.

Car preparation, remove all loose objects as they can become a hazard when driving on the track, check all fluid, tyre pressures and your good to go, it doesn't matter if your car is standard or modified you can have fun, just drive within your ability. Start of slowly and build up as you learn the track and gain confidence, the track is actually the safest place to learn to drive quickly. No cars coming towards you and gravel traps to stop you. It is of course not totally risk free but then nothing is.

Driver preparation, you must wear a crash helmet, these can be borrowed from Knockhill, arms and legs must be covered so no shorts or T-shirts, seat belts must be worn at all times. Passengers are allowed but only in the front seat again same rules re clothing and belts and no hand held camera/phones.

Driving licences will be inspected at signing on, no driving licence NO trackday, your car doesn't need to have road tax or insurance to take part but would then need to be trailer there.
