    heated rear screen hatch restoration

has anyone successfully restored a rear hatch surround , as i have a heated rear screen in the frame but the frame is not in the best of condition ...
i was thinking of trying to remove the glass from the frame and getting it blasted and then i can repair it ..
    thoughts folks ?

    Mark.

Mark, yes although I have had mixed results on how good the heated screen ends up being as its easy to scratch the printed tracks.

The frame usually rots around same place as lower screen splits so the small plate and screws normally need drilled out.

A tip I had from Graham Anderson long time ago was the replacement rubber seal around the glass when putting the glass back in (*no factory seals exist) is the inner tube of a bicycle tyre slit down middle.

    Top tip that !

So just gouge out the selae rfrom outside of glass, try not to scratch too much around inside as the elements are printed on and scratch easy.

Good news is heated rear screens are available new if needed, contact Jeff Day Guest whio is also making new screen surrounds

Thanks for this , may well be worth getting one made and giving him the glass to slot in then, save me the hassle of restoring the old one .

The frame is not too complex, Tim Mckie repaired his sing existing glass.

Have a go if you are happy to do so, Jeffs solution is always available ifn it fails ?

How bad is the frame ?

No worries Mark, I have 3 here I need to attend to but its likely Iit will be end of year before I attend to them, mostly swelling at the joint in the frame/botton corners, should just need a slit and bonded back together (hopefully)

I just dont like the way they dont sit flat when they get crusty

I stripped my frame off the glass had it dipped and did some small repairs, fitted the Lexan Polycarb from Plastics for performance into the frame using thick self amalgamating electrical tape.
