  • Wiper Motor

Having bought a new motor years ago (rightly or wrongly?) looking at fitting , l know l have a strap and rubber support piece somewhere ?
Pictured in position is the old refurbished mounting plate next to new design motor , is there another mounting plate for newer motors?
I'm looking at it thinking l need to make a new support bracket that fits around half of the new motor assembly diameter . Click image for larger version Name:	IMG_20210509_124149724_HDR.jpg Views:	63 Size:	4.44 MB ID:	14729
Or do l just forget new motor and refurbish old one , might be easier?
Assume there were different holes in shell to clamp newer round bodied motors?
    Any thought gratefully received.

Bob, I have never had a car using the later motor but I am sure it was a large band around it. I scrapped plenty and can remember seeing some big clamps so i might even have one somewhere.

Colins car should have the later motor Colimp66

Yes. Found the clamp and support rubber , problem now is there are no suitable holes to fix and it's double skinned on top of wheel arch , assume l might have to use rivnuts (never used them before) if l put original plate on it would raise motor too high , have two old motors but liked the idea of having two speed (new) motor .

Found a picture of round bodied motor clamped to a larger plate then the powder coated on in my picture ,so looks like l need to obtain one of those .

Two large holes where wiper drives go through bulkhead , which is correct hole for wiper drive tubes , might be obvious once l have motor in position as it would be preferable to have run as straight as possible. . hole nearest nearside or one just in from that?

Bob, hole to the left for the tube and the motor position is not super critical but needs to be pretty close.

Remember you need a different switch for the later motor.

          Rivnuts are the future

Dave, I will check if I have one for Bob but suspect not as i usually leave it in place and just cut wires when breaking a car, I gave all the MK 3 spares away to Paul Conroy or Paul Coulter as i dont have need of them

Can you get them new still ?

You are correct John, The Pest has the later motor which is fixed with a U shaped band which rests on a rubber insulator pad. You can buy them from Car Builder Solutions I believe.
I lost the rubber insulator pad and was able to source through Ebay.
I am still using the original switch for the wiper motor.

                    Cheers
                    Col.

I have new strap and rubber support pad , my only problem is that there are no suitable holes for using the strap (double skin at that point) am currently looking at making plate that fits to original mounting plate ,which makes area larger for fitting strap to.

Seen a picture of larger plate for that purpose on the DAILY thread. mention no names
Never really looked but when you put main beams on does the dipped beam stay on ? assume it does , just that using relays it would need to be case of both being used when on main beam , if you can understand that?
below is the unit l'm thinking of getting , should be easy enough for me to make two aluminium sleeves for fitment to outer and inner column
cheap enough to not worry if it can't be sorted ,but sure l can get it working (but is there room with binnacle)?

This assembly offers left/right cancelling indicators, main/dip beam switching, and 2 speed wiper. 200mm harnesses with one 6-way one 8-way and a single female spade. Clamps onto a 40mm diameter column (Clamping sleeve 44mm deep). 21mm diameter through hole for upper column shaft. Body diameter 86mm.  Overall length front to back 113mm. Total width across arms 360mm. Two short arms (Indicator and Wiper) are 165mm from Centre  The long arm (Dip/Main) is 205mm from centre.  The Slip ring for auto cancelling indicators is 70mm with a locator @ 30mm from centre. Saw that picture of wiper motor mount , What was the thread it was in / if it was ?
Looks like the cars that had the round motored ones had a totally different mounting plate , looks like it's welded in?
l just need to make something similar using the square mounting plate l have as a plate to bolt new one to car.possibly.

Bob, have you bought this universal column control yet ?

Looking at the wiring diagram it looks like it will do your wiper motor OK, except that it will only need switched 12V and the two wires for the motor.. Having the switched supply to the motor, then taking the 3 wires fom the motor back to the switch might keep it a little easire to plan.
