So more examples below of method 2, NOT using the camera icon but the attachment process instead, this second method allows you to chose the size of the image in the post.
See video at end, shown is first select one image, the second upload attachment box I selected 3 files at once to upload

As you can see you can pick the size depending what you want to show, rarely you should need to go more than medium, especially if your target audience might be reading on a mobile device.
Remember even if the images are small thumbnails, anyone clicking can see the full size image. If you still have "attachments" at bottom these are images you have uploaded but failed to add in the post
