  • Ooerr...How do I start a new topic ?

Well after my last bollocking from DD on the Imp Club Forum, I've vowed to never post on there again. I've been registered on here for some time now, so thought it about time I changed my alliegence (SP) and got my head around how this here Forum works . So, can someone please tell me if I'm going about creating a new topic in the correct way. Is there a way to get notifications to subjects I'm interested in ?

    I'll learn .....

    Cheers, Uncle Henry

Hi Andy, yes the fellas have some issues to work out. Been there, got T shirt, enough said.

Not any busier here tho really but it is fully public viewable so the amount of actual "reads" is extremely high. One serious audience. Daves stuff comes out on top mostly, followed by Dans Mk1 pic with the dog in driving seat

Posting wise two buttons at top depending on category. You will notice mine is in black, thats just my preferred colour scheme which can be changed at bottom left using this drop down button where it says "dark", click, pick, done

    New topic

Pick the category by clicking the title

Say you wanted to let Stan say hello to the world.

So pick "Car Owners - SHOWS US YOUR IMPS"

Then you have this at top

Just below banner top left "New topic" button starts a topic or what I still think of as a "thread"

You automatically get a notification on anything you post, replies, likes etc.

If you like anything you see in the rotating banner at top of page just click it and you will go directly there,

If you want to keep track of the new topic you read just use the "+Subscribe" button below banner top right and it will be added.

There is also a bar at the top called "Notifications" with a small bell icon to left, it will let you know if any activity you have subscribed to or folks passing have pressed like but not posted any message. On busy forums it makes a difference as loads of like "posts" can suck up server resources like you would not bvelieve, the feature originally evolved as a "thank you" button which in my own view was more accurate but the term was changed to like by the developers so it comformed with the buzz words of today.

I pressed a like so you can see.

Other than that Andy the quote buttons are similar to pHpBB as are most other features.

There is also an instant messsage system for anyone online, The little speech bubble to the right of the user profile picture if clicked opens the instant message box.

This is similar but not same as the Private Message system.

It might seem a little frustrating at first Andy, any questions just ask away. I can do a few videos as well. I promised to do a few a while ago now and never got round to it as folks seem to have figured most out on their own.

As regards reading other places stuff in the category "whats going on"

Imp Club Forum - You can read most of the general discussion posts from the Imp Club Forum from there, if the topic looks interesting just click on it and you can have a read without actually logging in to the Imp Club Forum itself or at least until such times as they close that loop hole they already shut down access to readers cars a month or so back but there is more holes in the access than a string vest.

Ebay - I have added the seach terms Hillman imp and Singer Chamois to the feeding bowl for the search bots, so again, if anything crops up, there is a subject summary and link, if its interesting, clieck and read. All Ebay stuff is public anyway

Facebook - There is a very active community on "The Hillman Imp Group" on Facebook and to bring that here I add it to the daily feeding bowl of the robots to go fetch. Many things on Facebook do not require a login, they are completely public, so again there is a subject summary just click to read.

Many people here do not use Facebook at all, but they can still see what is going on thanks to the bots if it seems interesting.

Moose and Col Rooneys corner are an example. Colin has his CA Restoration Pages where he posts pictures of all his work on Imps and stuff on Facebook, to save him posting twice, I take a feed (with Colins permission) and create the posts in forum format for us all to see. Same for Mike, Mike has his "Imp Competition Parts" Facebook page, again with Mikes permission I stream the posts to Mosse Corner automatically so he does not need to post twice.

See below what you will see in Notifications

You can actually access all activity from here, for example if i click the number 8 next to subscriptions, I see a list of the 8 items I tagged of interest
