OK, I borrowed a science fiction reference but it could have been worse, it could have been a trekkie one
42 could indeed be the answer but could also be 4 or two or 6 good contributors.
Next question is how to measure forum success or failure, should it be
My own personal view is actually NONE of the above
To me the success of the forums is the recognition given to anyone who contributes by way of the a mount of new reads. Here we use PIs as part of the analytics to see how many reads, specifically new visitors we have.
A summary of the boring techie stuff and how valuable is these "page impressions" unfolds like this, normally these are how pay per click fees are created, a site that only has 100 new PI per day is NOT as valuable to an advertiser as one that has 10,000 a day, so the site with the most PI is more valuable.
It is something that happens "under the hood" and forum contributors rarely get credit for it.
Let us just say that for the limited traffic on hillmanimp.org the amount of unique visits we receive here is WELL above what I would expect, even if the activity was 100x more than it is now as it keeps the information that is being searched for fully accessible with our free to read policy.
I could allow "public" use of the like button facility which is only available to registrered user at present but I fear the robots would start an attack.
As only really me and a few other can see these stats I would like to say thanks to all the contributors who have given their time for free to add the content for people to find and read.
An example of how things can vary,
Top spot read wise is Dave Lanes ( Dave Lane ) post on check straps. Cheers Dave and well done!
Most hit image is this one
In fact it holds the number 1, 4 and 5 spot as it has multiple placements, in total the 3 placements have in their time here had over 4.200 individual view (actual people clicking to view image in browser) and thats not including reads of the thread itself.
Second top spot is actually the picture of Dans MK 1 ith the pup riding shotgun
High_dan shows how many peps were looking for MK 1 related items, 1,800 individual looks at that one
Dog requires some credit !
Next up was actually Bobs washer jet replacement, tank filter and wiper spindle seals Petowner
An up and coming hit though is Mikes parts and updates moose549
Readers car wise, every one in the rest category has a huge amount of views.
Summary folks is that on a monthly basis enything you have contributed is being WELL read and IS being visited by loads of people. So very well done.

- Total amount of member registrations
- Total amount of active members
- Total amount of topics and posts
- Quality of the content
- Rules and regulations
- Restricted access to areas to try and create value
- Loads of administrators ready to hit people with a big stick
