  • Flappy fuel tank anti surge valve

Ever noticed if you brake hard in an Imp with 1/2 a tank or more fuel comes out the overflow pipe and the car stinks of fuel . Ever wondered how much would come out if you sadly fit someone and the fuel filler pipe splits . Well ive not hit anything but i recon it would be a lot .
Anyway this one way flappy tank valve solves all the issues , mines been in since 2016 with no ill effects other than you need to fill up a tad slower .
    Valve is for a MK2 / 2.5 Mazda MX5 - part number GE4T- 42 - 270B , Available from Mazda or i got mine from here
    http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/fuel-filler-r ... -2643.html
You also need the filler pipe as this holds the valve .
I got mine from ebay - theres usually a few for sale .
You also need a rubber adaptor , try as i might i couldnt find the exact size to fit our tank so went with this one , part number HRED50.

The problem with not finding the correct outer diameter meant the necessity to make an adaptor to the following size. inner diameter was made slightly smaller than the 50mm rubber adaptor so its a tight fit , Rubber adaptor is fuel / oil / whatever resistant or so it says anyway
The Mazda pipe you need looks like this

Chop off this end keeping both swage bumps in place

Standard Imp rubber fuel filler hose just fits over it with no further mods required , flaps allow the fuel to go in but close if any tries to get out , even an emergency stop with a fuel tank resulted in no fuel smell whatsoever . Flaps remaion open under normal driving so tank venting is unaffected

Buying from https://www.autolinkmx5.com/fuel-fil...sed-4072-p.asp seems to kill two birds with one stone - the filler neck and the valve for £18 quid delivered.

Now to find a kindly soul to make the adapter plate

The mod makes a difference, I have bits lying around for years now since Dave originally posted it but never bothered.

Old Boris will be leaving the off ramp for the Monte Carlo heritage run on Wed afternoon from George Square in Glasgow and they usually have the run up and over the hills where sheep and goars fear to tread.

Always get the smelly fuel especially down hill, cant leave without a full tank !

Very neat little mod. That fuel smell is annoying.

A replacement is on its way out to me , and after your success Bob Im sure mine will be correct now too, all in all pleased with the quick response by the vendor to rectify the issue.

As a side note - the seller on ebay suffolk-mazda have confirmed that they have some pipework with 3 way valves in stock, if you email them on ebay and ask them to confirm they have stock, and then purchase a valve and leave a note to seller reminding them of the requirement of a 3 way valve - you can get it all for the princely sum of £14.03 delivered.

Today ,l've made a new ring to fit flappy valve to , hadn't ordered a rubber reducer so had a look at tank yesterday and decided l should be able to make a ring to suit , pictured . I had already made two rings for use with a rubber reducer, also pictured ,one for Martin and one for me , this is now no longer needed so if anyone wants it ? message me.
