      Dan

I normally would anyway, the mesh is fine in Bobs filter but another one pre-pump does no harm, just use bigger bore hose into the pump (8mm if you can)

Thanks John, the facet solid state pump I have you can get a filter that screws into the pump. So I’ll have a banjo fitting at bottom of tank with a 8mm hose connector, 8mm hose to the filter that’s screwed into the pump then a 6mm hose connector on the other end of the pump that will have a 6mm hose that connects to the existing fuel line under car. Do you think it would be better to connect to the Existing fuel line in the car or under ? I would rather have a new single line running from the pump all the way to the pump but will have to save that job for another day.

Watch the output pressure on facet pumps , its usually way too high and will need regulating - also wear ear defenders as they rattle like two skeletons fighting in a filing cabinet

Thanks Dave, the facet posiflow is 1.5-4 psi, should be spot on? It’s also very quiet if mounted on rubber spacers.

            specs below

            Specification:- Posi-Flow
            Pump:- 60104
            Voltage:- 12v
            Earth:- Neg
            Pressure (Psi):- 1.5-4.
            Flow:- US Gallons/Hr:-25
Dry Prime Height in Mtrs:- 0.3
            Thread Size:- 1/8th nptf
            Operating Temperature:- -40º F to 180° F (all Models)

What carbs you running , standard mechanical pump is 1 1/4 lb to 2lb , SU carbs will handle 3lb max as an example so if its up near 4lb thats double a factory pump -
I use SU pumps , ones 7 gallons per hour which in US gallons is 8.40 and ones 8 gallons per hour which is 9.40 in US gallons - yours is up to 25 US gallons per hour which is 21 gallons UK , Way too high IMHO

Ok, thanks for the advice Dave. Will see how I get on and will be ready to update you either way. I know from previous cars that a regulator on a facet pump is what makes them noisy and kills them. If it doesn’t work will swap for a su-pump. I was recommended this pump by Mike Dent and Andy Jones. Andy is currently building me a 998cc engine.

Just confirm with Mike and go with what he says , hes a top guru of all things Imp , let me know what he says and i can then re-evalutate my replies to this type of question if im wrong , my understanding is these require 2.7lb to 3lb max as an ideal

Thanks Dave will do, as you know I’m still learning and advice is always happily received. Mike supplied the pump for me and knows my setup. But will defiantly check with him. I’ve got a fuel pressure gauge so once it’s up and running I’ll check the psi it’s actually putting out too.

Depends on which facet pump Dan, they do several, the small solenoid based ones I would not give house room to, they are bone rattling pieces of crap and make more noise and heat than pump fuel.

I had a box of failures at one time of this kind

Never seen a SU pump fail or at least none that a new set of contacts did not sort out.

Facet do do higher flow pumps, these have a very high flow rate and very popular in a lot of race cars in which case take Mike/ Andys recommendation.

My own configuration which I prefer as I do not like noise, hate pumps getting warm is a carter pump very popular with VW crowd. Flow rate is typically for Solex twin chokes. Larger bore lines always better.

Like Dave with his SU never had an issue with a carter style pump from a reputable source. I run these pumps on 2 cars now, work great, rotary pumps so quiet and more efficient and do not take a lot of power.

It says 3.5 psi but with it front mounted in Helens car using 8mm tank to pump with in tank and pre pump filter, 8mm ID line from front to back of car to twin choke the fuel pressure memetr in the engine bay shows 2.7 ~2.9 PSI

The facet pumps I use for fuel transfer which I find too noisy for a road car has never let me down are these ones

No worries Dan. I always worry when you need rubber mounts to attach anything. Something just not right. The solid state ones should be quieter than the contact ones but you never here the electric pump in moderns, never really here it in moggies etc. (SU) and in the speedster and the imp the pump is literally at my feet.

Best of luck with the facet, not tried a solid state one to be fair.

Spoke to mike earlier today, he confirmed the one he has supplied me with will be perfect for the Weber 28/36. The Posi-Flo is there new design if it’s two noisy will swap it out for a carter or su one. Already have the pump so might as-well try it. Will report back soon.
