Had a change of plan on this and scrapped the original aluminium field coils as i found a set of copper ones made at Auto and General in the 70s .
One issue was the fact the North / south winding were 90˚ out .
Yes it would still work --- only it would run backwards
Anyway after much head scratching i managed to fit these copper field coils in 90˚ out from how they were designed to be fitted and match the North / South poles of the old alloy ones - therefor it should run the correct way.
And the reason for using the copper fields is simple --- so much more torque and power
So its had
A new Armature
New field coils
Two new bushes - pre soaked in oil
Full set of genuine Lucas brushes
New field coil post
Once finished it will also have a NOS genuine Bendix .
Il fit this on Monday and spray it up properly after its been on the test bed to see how it reacts under load( and to see if it goes the right way
